Mark your calendars!

The Northern Beaches RFPA branch is hosting its next branch lunch on Thursday, on 17th April 2025 @ 12 noon, at the Terrey Hills Tavern, located in Terrey Hills.

Last time, we gathered indoors, but it got a bit snug. This time, weather permitting, we’ll settle into the Beer Garden for a more spacious and relaxing vibe. With over 30 attendees joining us previously, it’s clear this event is popular—and there’s ample room to mingle, savour the bistro fare, and enjoy refreshing drinks amidst great company.

No RSVPs needed! Feel free to bring along your partner, a close friend, a retired or active officer, or even your cheerful neighbour. Simply show up and join us for an afternoon of good food, conversation, and camaraderie. Looking forward to seeing you there!

Northern Beaches RFPA visit to the Marine Area Command – 27th Feb 2025
Twenty-eight enthusiastic sailors from the Northern Beaches RFPA recently had the pleasure of visiting the NSW Police Marine Area Command in Balmain.
The day started with a bus pick-up for 20 members from Manly Leagues Club, expertly driven by our volunteer, Haldane Potts. Meanwhile, another seven lucky members were treated to a beautiful Harbour cruise from Manly Wharf to Balmain aboard the Police Launch Alert.
Upon arrival, we received a warm welcome and an engaging talk from Supt McNulty about the operations at the MAC. Linc then guided us through the Police Divers section, showcasing their incredible gear and capabilities.
After a delightful lunch, the entire group boarded Alert for a leisurely Harbour cruise back to Manly. In true seafaring fashion, a few “mutineers” were made to walk the plank and were left at Manly. The remaining loyal crew enjoyed the scenic views on the return trip to Balmain, eventually rejoining the bus back to Manly Leagues.
The day was a resounding success, made even more special by celebrating our dedicated RFPA CoM member Dave Drew’s birthday with a cold beer and nibbles at Sake Restaurant and Bar, courtesy of some thoughtful “mutineers.”
A big thanks to Brian Friend for organizing this event and to Supt Joe McNulty for being our gracious host and Christine who assisted the presentation. Thanks also to Linc Kilpatrick our Skipper on the Alert and Brad the Deckhand, Haldane Potts our bus driver and all the staff at MAC who made us feel most welcome.
And thanks to all the Members of the Northern Beaches branch who made the effort to come along, some of whom travelled a long way to be there.

We kick off 2025

What a great rollup for the first Northern Beaches branch meeting of 2025… 40 happy campers came along for some good company, a few laughs, some well-deserved awards and a nice lunch at the bistro.

Sadly we acknowledged the passing of well-known locals Peter Burgess, Paul Hughes, Ted Calandruccio and Al Lukes as well as other RFP members who passed in the last couple of months. Our branch Vale sash was displayed and with the appropriate name and service details, these are placed on the casket of our members who pass. Thanks by the way to the Central Coast RFPA Branch for coming up with this great initiative, which should be adopted by all RFPA branches.

On the bright side, Lindsay FREEMAN was presented with his OBE (Over Bloody Eighty) Certificate and Al Hines was presented with his MBE (Magnificent Bloody Effort) for his wise oversight as our branch Auditor.

But the awards didn’t stop there. Our fabulous Northern Beaches RFPA branch Welfare Team were presented with RFPA Significant Volunteer Service plaques for the tireless work they do managing the welfare of our members over a number of years… and in some cases those who are not our members. Congratulations Barry “Scooter” MILES, Geoff “Jellybeans’ KAY, Margaret KAY and Deb ANDERSON … each received their plaques with our thanks.

Then it was time for our Raffle Winners… Tony Wright scored a couple of bottles of wine and several others each won a $199 voucher from our RFPA Business Partner, Specsavers Warriewood.

Due to the great work of Northern Beaches and CoM member David Drew (who is the new RFPA Member Benefits and Discounts Coordinator and has secured a number of Business Partners who offer exclusive discounts to financial RFPA Members) one of our branch members was able to secure a substantial discount at Jax Tyre and Auto Brookvale. Initial quote for a set of new tyres was over $2,000 but with the exclusive RFPA Member discount, the final cost was just $1,500! See the RFPA website (retiredpolice.com.au) for how financial RFPA Members can score discounts and benefits at an increasing number of RFPA Business Partners.

We had a fantastic turnout at the 2024 Northern Beaches PAC Retired Police Officers Day held at Mona Vale Police Station. Amongst those present it was wonderful to see so many Northern Beaches RFPA Members and Veterans, including Police Widows Deb Anderson and Jan Keech. The Blue Family truly lives on.

A big thank you to Northern Beaches Command OIC Superintendent John Duncan and his outstanding team, including Belinda Caddy and Rebecca Jessop, for making this day so memorable.

We were also honored to have the Mayor of Pittwater, Sue Heins, join us. She expressed her gratitude to all former officers for their dedicated service to the community and the Northern Beaches.
